DoktorandInnen und PostdoktorandInnen k\u00f6nnen sich bewerben; alle weiteren Infos <a href=\"https:\/\/uni-tuebingen.de\/index.php?id=170463\">hier<\/a> und unten.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->&#8222;In recent years, more and more philosophers\u00a0working in areas other than applied\u00a0ethics \u2013 areas such as metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of mind,\u00a0philosophy of language, and philosophy of science \u2013 have turned their attention\u00a0to publicly debated issues, including issues around gender, race, power,\u00a0climate change,\u00a0epistemic injustice, conspiracy theories, fake news, and\u00a0post-truth. Since the tools and methods employed in these different disciplines\u00a0vary greatly, both between themselves and in relation to the traditional\u00a0methods of applied ethics, there are\u00a0interesting methodological questions that\u00a0this new body of work gives rise to. This summer school aims to foster a\u00a0conversation about methodology between applied ethicists and philosophers from\u00a0other areas who work on real-world challenges.\u00a0 <br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/>Submissions may \u2013 but do not have to \u2013 focus on\u00a0the following topics: <br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/>a)\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0the methodology of applied ethics <br class=\"\" \/>\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0the\u00a0strengths and weaknesses of existing methods in applied ethics (top-down vs.\u00a0bottom-up, monism vs. pluralism, reflective equilibrium, specificationism, and\u00a0so on) <br class=\"\" \/>\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0methodological\u00a0reflections on specific examples of work in applied ethics <br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/>b)\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0the application of tools and methods from other\u00a0areas of philosophy to issues of public concern, for example <br class=\"\" \/>\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0the use\u00a0of epistemological concepts and tools in accounts of fake news, post-truth,\u00a0epistemic injustice, and conspiracy theories, among others <br class=\"\" \/>\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0the use\u00a0of metaphysical concepts and tools in accounts of sex, gender, race, pregnancy,\u00a0and birth, among others <br class=\"\" \/>\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0the use\u00a0of concepts and tools from the philosophy of language in accounts of sexist and\u00a0racist speech and pornography, among others <br class=\"\" \/>\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0the use\u00a0of mathematical models in accounts of social dynamics like inequity and the\u00a0spread of misinformation, among others <br class=\"\" \/>\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0the use\u00a0of decision-theoretic tools in policy-oriented work on climate change and\u00a0artificial intelligence, among others <br class=\"\" \/>\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0the\u00a0tools and methods of ideal and non-ideal political philosophy, respectively,\u00a0and how they differ <br class=\"\" \/>\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0the\u00a0alleged value-neutrality of \u201ctheoretical disciplines\u201d such as metaphysics,\u00a0epistemology, and philosophy of mind <br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/>c)\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0connections between topics in a) and b) <br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/>\u2013\u2013\u2013 <br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/>We are pleased to invite graduate students and\u00a0early career researchers to submit extended abstracts (1000 words) that are\u00a0suitably anonymised for blind review by March 31, 2020.
